Psychology

The syllabus in Psychology has been restructured to fit the semester system. Our faculty was involved in restructuring papers such as child psychology and psychology of adolescence. The Department has been making use of modern teaching methods like the use of LCD, OHP, field trips and educational trips for the betterment of the students.

Name: Fr. Jeronimo D’ Silva

Fr. Jeronimo D’ Silva is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. He is transferred from St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa and joined Rosary College in 2020. He served as an Officiating Principal of St. Xavier’s College from 2016-2019. He has presented and published research papers on topics Self-esteem, depression, loneliness, social support etc. at International, National and State Level Seminars. He is a member of various cells, clubs and associations of Rosary College.

Name: Marie Tanya Marchon e Mascarenhas

Qualification: MA Clinical Psychology, NET, LLB, PG Diploma in Criminal Justice.
Teaching Experience: 27 years

Ms. Marie Tanya Marchon e Mascarenhas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology. She joined Rosary College in 1993. She held important administrative positions in the college through the years. She has been part of various committees at the University. She has attended and organized seminars, workshops, conferences and FDP’s for faculty as well as for students. She has presented a joint paper on Domestic Violence Against Women and has published research articles in  International Journal of Advanced and Innovative Research, Kruti and  Gyana. She was a guest lecturer at the Dominican Institute of Philosophy. Apart from teaching her interests are travelling, singing, dancing, community service and attending legal proceedings.

Name: Dr. Maria Muriel de Barros

Maria Muriel de Barros joined the Department of Psychology in 2012. Through the years she has served the College as a convenor/ member of various committees, clubs and cells. She has been the Nodal Officer for NIRF and AISHE (2018-19). She has also been a part of the organizing committees for several seminars, workshops, talks and inter-class competitions. While emphasizing the importance of experiential learning she has organized field visits to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, the South Goa Session and District Court, the Modern Central Jail and the Primary Health Centre at Loutolim. She has a keen interest in the field of research in psychology and has published several research articles. She has attended workshops/ seminars on research methodology and has also presented a paper at the 4th International Conference on Stress Management- ICSM 2017.

Ms. Daniella Fernandes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. She has completed her graduation from Rosary College of Commerce and Arts Navelim and Post Graduation from Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce and has always excelled academically. She has also been the 1st Rank holder for Masters in Psychology at Goa University. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D in Psychology at CHRIST (deemed to be University) Bangalore. She has interned as a Counselor at Hospicio Hospital Margao at the department of Psychiatry and District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) and the Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC) for Women-Bailancho Ekvott. She was the Women Welfare Officer for the South District of Goa (AEDI) under Directorate of Women and Child. She has thought at the Post Graduate Department Of Psychology at Carmel College Nuvem. She has been a resource person for several State and National Level Seminars and Webinars and organised several workshops and seminars/webinar’s for different groups of people.

Name: Elaine Amanda Furtado

Ms. Elaine Amanda Furtado joined the Department of Psychology at Rosary College of Commerce and Arts in August 2022. She has completed her graduation as well as post-graduation from Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women. Ms Elaine has worked closely with people living with HIV during her interning days at the Human Touch Foundation, Goa. She has also thought students at the Higher Secondary level before joining Rosary College. She has successfully conducted workshops on Anger Management and Stress Management as well as webinars on the same during the Covid 19 pandemic. On a personal level, Ms. Elaine is caring and attentive by nature with a genuine desire to help students. 

Name: Maryjane De Souza

Teaching Experience: Joined Rosary College in 2024.

After completing her B.A in Psychology at St. Xavier’s College Mapusa, she completed her Master’s in Applied Psychology at Mumbai University. Cleared SET in 2021, and did her Master’s in Political Science through IGNOU in 2022. She worked as a counselor at St. Francis Xavier High School Mapusa for 3 years, and worked as an Assistant Professor in Psychology at St. Xavier’s College Mapusa from July 2019- April 2024. She has also Completed 8 grades in Classical guitar and play the guitar and keyboard.
