For centuries, man has been fighting wars, conquering lands, making and breaking governments, starting revolutions. The Department of History digs deeper into our past.
The Department has two lecturers who have been appointed as per University rules. The Syllabus of the department were changed in the year 2007 as per the new revised UGC syllabus. The lecturers use laptops, LCD projectors for teaching and are competent in computer teaching and learning.
Objectives
- To make learning of History more interesting
- To inculcate a love for the subject.
- Preservation of our heritage for future reference
- To enlighten students about the divisive forces at work in the world.

Name: Dr. Rita Braganza
Present Designation: Associate Professor

Teaching Experience: 33 Years
Joined Rosary College in 1993. She completed her Ph.D. from Goa University on the topic “Goa-Karnataka Relations 1763- 1857: A Political and Economic Study” for which she received a study grant from the Indian Council for Historical Research, Delhi. She has published two research papers in “Indica” a Journal of the Heras Institute of Indian History and Culture, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai. She has presented 7 research papers from 1995 to 2019. She has also been a member of the Board of Studies at Goa University and the Chairperson of the Board of Examiners in History. She has organized various activities for students as the Convener of the Women’s Cell and Heritage Cell as well as an NSS Programme Officer.

Name: Alison Dias e Quadros

Joined Rosary College in 1997. She has been actively involved in a number of activities at the college level. She has been the IQAC coordinator of the college during the Third cycle of NAAC reaccreditation and member of the Steering Committee for the previous two cycles. She is also a member of the Admission Committee. Over the years she has also been convenor of the Heritage Cell of the College and has organised several activities as part of the cell. The most prominent being the annual All Goa Portuguese Singing Contest “Vem Cantar”in collaboration with Fundacao Oriente. In addition she has been member of various other committees of the college. She has excellent teaching and communication skills, an affable personality, good organisational and interpersonal skills and overall interacting with her is interesting and refreshing.

Miss Nitisha Carvalho is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, and a Master’s degree in History from Goa University. She has also completed her Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Nirmala Institute of Education. She successfully cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) in 2024 and the Goa Teacher Eligibility Test (GTET) in 2025. Currently, she is pursuing a second Master’s degree in English through IGNOU, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and academic growth. Although a fresher in the field of higher education, Miss Carvalho brings with her practical teaching experience gained through internships at St. Paul’s High School, Karnataka, and Holy Cross Convent Primary School, Quepem. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. She is passionate about engaging students with local histories and diverse perspectives, aiming to shape socially aware and informed individuals.
